SD62 is pleased to offer a multitude of academy programs at the Middle and Secondary school levels. These Choice Programs are either hosted at schools during the regular school day, or by the District Academies team outside the regular school day. Please take the time to review our academy offerings below and determine if any of these these exciting opportunities are suited to your family and student athlete.

SD62's Academy Programs
Registration for the 2026 - 2027 School Year
Registration for all Academies opens at 8:00 AM, Monday 9February 2026.
In addition to SD62's Grade level specific Student Code of Conduct, Academy Student Athletes are expected to understand and adhere to their Roles & Responsibilities. Registration and acceptance into an academy program implies that families and student athletes have reviewed and agree to the following guidelines and expectations of Registration, Fee Structure Payment, Student Athlete Roles & Responsibilities as well the Withdrawal process.
Registrations will continue to be accepted until the Academy reaches capacity on a first come, first serve basis. Please be aware that some academies have specific entrance requirements (Dunsmuir Dance Academy, Royal Bay Dance Academy, and Royal Bay Golf Academy).
Note: Before you register for an Academy Program, please sign the online consent for School Cash Online if you haven’t already done so. It is required to process Academy payments.

Hockey
This academy offers both male and female hockey players the opportunity to develop their individual hockey skills while completing their academic course work. The program aims to enhance students’ opportunities to learn and excel academically and athletically through sport. Each student must follow a code of conduct to maintain good standing in the academy.

The Soccer Academy is a wonderful program for the student who wants to develop his/her potential as a high-performance athlete or just simply wants to learn and enjoy playing the game. It is not a program reserved only for elite players within the sport but welcomes players of all skill levels who are committed to development both as soccer players and as individuals. There is a significant expectation that the athletes involved are committed to working hard, developing their skills and have interest in considerable personal growth.

Our Dance Academy is a multi-style dance skills development program open to any interested students who possess a passion and enthusiasm for dance, while desiring to improve and expand upon their existing dance training. We look for committed, coachable dancers with a high standard of personal responsibility and behaviour. Dancers should have dance experience and/or the drive, determination and commitment to learn.

Spencer Middle School offers a dance program (not academy) for Grades 7 & 8. Please call the school for information and to register 250-474-1291.
This three-year program will help students to broaden his/her knowledge base as well as help them to explore potential careers working with horses. Horse ownership is not a requirement for the program. We have a working relationship with a local horse stable and training facility where we can offer you a wide range of training and options for those who want to have a horse for riding purposes. In addition, if you do own a horse the stable can provide you with a place to stable your horse.

District-wide academy available (Grade 6-12 after-school) | Program Fee $ 2550.00
District-wide Equine Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays @ 4 p.m. at Royal Bay Secondary School and Cedar Vista Stables for instruction.
Instruction includes both classroom and practical riding experiences.
This Baseball academy is designed to provide a positive learning environment for both male and female students to improve their skills in an area of great passion. With access to excellent coaching and training facilities, this program enhances the overall school experience by providing students with opportunities to improve their health, fitness and self-confidence on a daily basis.

The Softball Academy is designed to provide a positive learning environment for both male and female students to improve their skills in an area of great passion. Athletes will have the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of this exciting sport. Players of all skill levels will learn how to maximize their training while completing their course work at the same time.

We offer two Golf Academy options. Both academies follow the Golf Canada Long Term Player Development Model, providing instruction and opportunities for athletes that are learning to play or learning and training to compete. Our mission is to provide an experience that helps all players, regardless of their abilities, progress to the next level. Above all, we want the golf experience to be rewarding and fun for students.
These academies are available to all SD62 students in Grades 6-12. Students in Grades 9-12 also complete online course work for secondary school grad credits.

Available to golfers in Grades 9-12 with experience and a handicap index of less than 20. This academy is inside the timetable and runs all year at Royal Bay Secondary School.
Available to beginning golfers from Grades 6-12 and to golfers with experience that are middle school aged or don't wish to take golf inside the timetable at Royal Bay Secondary.
The PACE Musical Theatre Academy is open to any interested students (K-12) who possess a passion and enthusiasm for performing, and who are willing to work on their skill development in Acting, Singing and Dancing. No prior experience is necessary, and students are not required to audition.

All students (K-12) perform in a Musical Theatre Revue each Semester
December Production – 6 shows
April Production – 10 shows
K-5 students do every second show. They are divided into 2 casts.
Connections:
Students who are particularly serious about performing can take advantage of the Connections opportunities that are presented to PACE students during the year. (eg. Performing at the Parliament Buildings on Canada Day, working as a background actor in Film/Television, attending preview performances at Pacific Opera or the Belfry, special workshop and audition opportunities, etc.
